Are you looking for a week (or two) to get away from it all and just relax or maybe an active holiday where you don’t have to do a lot of planning? Consider an all-inclusive vacation package, which includes flight, lodging, dining, drinks, and many activities. While Mexico and the Dominican Republic are the most well-known destinations for all-inclusive vacations, options abound throughout the Caribbean and beyond. Whether you want to hit the beach or hit the slopes, there is an all-inclusive vacation for you!
#1 – The package price is what you pay. When you book an all-inclusive vacation package, you truly know what you are paying for the vacation up front. Almost everything is included: flights, transfers, lodging, dining, drinks, and many activities. A few exceptions to this include day trips off the resort, use of motorized watercraft, and gratuities if you choose to tip your waitstaff and housekeepers. However, there are even some resorts that do include tours/activities off site in their package. One such resort is Hotel Xcaret, where resort guests can visit all the Xcaret parks and do tours to places such as Chichen Itza as part of their all-inclusive package.
#2 – You can do nothing or do everything. Do you want to sit by the pool, sipping Margaritas and reading a book? Or do you want to go kayaking, followed by a game of beach soccer, and then hit the pool for some volleyball? In the evenings, you can choose between drinks and music, taking in a performance, or doing your own thing. You set the pace of your vacation at an all-inclusive resort.
#3 – There is an all-inclusive package for most budgets. You don’t have to be made of money to enjoy an all-inclusive vacation. Not only do resorts vary widely in their level of luxury and services, within each resort there are often different levels of service. That means that you get to decide what aspects of the resort experience are most important for your money.
#4 – Many resorts have kid pools, play areas and childcare. As a mom of a five year old, I love spending time on vacation with my son. Camping out at the kids pool for the morning is a great opportunity for us to play together without me feeling like I have to create activities for us to do. It’s also a great spot to meet other families and make new friends. For as much as I love the family fun we have, I also love to fit in some adult time as well, whether it’s lounging by the pool or having a nice dinner out. All-inclusive resorts often have kids clubs from morning until evening. Although most resorts start with kids ages four and up, there are some resorts that accept younger children including even babies.

#5 – Resorts offer a wide range of activities. While the most common type of all-inclusive resort is centered around a beach vacation and typical beach activities, there are a number of other activities offered at all-inclusives around the world. Your package might include skiing in the Alps with Club Med, sailing in Turkey or Greece, scuba diving in Bali, or golfing in Portugal. And, if you don’t know how to do your activity of choice yet, that’s OK – lessons are usually also part of the package price!
